Every day we are blasted by messages through marketing and the media that a certain food will "rescue" or "irretrievably harm" our health or our food plan; but the truth is, all foods fit in a food plan. Whether you are an omnivore, vegetarian, fruitarian, pescetarian or vegan, all can safely eat with pleasure.
At Campus Dining Services (CDS), we believe it’s important to promote a healthy relationship with food. It is much more than something we consume for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Food nourishes us socially, spiritually, and physically and is an integral part of our daily lives and rituals.
How can you improve your eating plan today?
- Create a meal that is pleasing visually- choose many colors and textures, choose hot and cold items
- Ask for a taste of an item of which you are not familar, this will help to expand the variety of foods you eat. When you ask for a small amount, you will not feel pressured to finish the food and won't waste it.
- Choose a variety of foods to provide the nutrients needed by your body
- Do not allow the items offered in the dining hall to limit you. Create your own meals by selecting items from different stations and adding spices. Heat your creation in the microwave, if necessary.
- Respect yourself. What you choose to eat is important to your health, to your psychological well being and to your self esteem.
Our dietitian is available to both student groups and individual students to aid in the exploration of these issues.
